Elena M. Hopkins, RN, MS, PNP is a nurse practitioner and team coordinator. She has been a member of ACPA for 26 years. Early on in her career, Elena received The Donna Pruzansky Memorial Fund for Maternal and Child Health Nursing (DPMF) Grant, which gave her the opportunity to attend ACPA’s Annual Meeting–where she was given the tools to transform her role on her team to better serve patients with cleft and craniofacial conditions.
“This was a great opportunity for me as a novice nurse practitioner in a new role because there was no template for the coordinator role, and there seemed to be great expectation with minimal resources or mentoring to model. The introduction to the world of cleft care was so important in my ability to understand the comprehensive nature of cleft and craniofacial care over a child’s lifetime. Without the scholarship and the ACPA networking, I would have likely struggled with the enormity of the multiple issues involved in optimal care of these patients and families,” Elena said.
