Call for Abstracts for ACPA’s 77th Annual Meeting

ACPA’s 77th Annual Meeting, March 31 – April 4, 2020 in Portland, OR is now accepting abstracts.  All ACPA members and interested nonmembers are invited to submit abstracts on new research, developing information or instructional courses on cleft lip/palate and craniofacial anomalies.   Submit an abstract by September 9, 2019.

Abstracts in the following categories will be considered:

  • Advanced Courses (120 minutes) – Non-Research – These courses offer advanced level training in a specified area of study. The in-depth content will typically require a certain amount of familiarity with the topic. These may be taught in any format.
  • Clinical Platform Paper (10 minutes) – Research and Non-Research – Clinical topics are presented during general and concurrent sessions throughout the meeting.
  • Foundational Courses (120 minutes) – Non-Research – These courses offer introductory level training in a specified area of study. These may be taught in any format.
  • Ideas and Innovations (4 minutes) – Research – This format is used to present a special case, a clinical innovation or a new technique.
  • Junior Investigator (10 minutes)– Research and Non-Research – Platform papers presented by Student Members or Active Members in their first year of practice may be considered for the Junior Investigator Award. The highest-rated eligible papers will be selected to compete in the Junior Investigator session for recognition and a $1,000 award. Winners will be selected based on demonstrated excellence in structure, impact, validity and delivery of their basic science or clinical work. Papers not selected for the Junior Investigator session will be considered for other sessions. To be considered for this Award, indicate interest on the submission agreement.
  • Panel Discussions (45, 60, or 90 minutes) – Non-Research – Panel sessions promote discussion on a debatable topic by offering different viewpoints and allowing for questions from the audience. Panels will start with a brief introduction by each panelist followed by a moderated discussion. Include all panelists and moderator in the author section of the submission. ACPA will assign session chairs to panels selected for presentations to further stimulate discussion.
  • PosterResearch and Non-Research – Presenters will make physical posters to present during several short, dedicated poster sessions. Presenters are required to be with their posters during the general meeting breaks of their assigned session.
  • Platform Paper (10 minutes) – Research – Research topics are presented during general and concurrent sessions throughout the meeting.
  • Platform Paper – Team Coordinating and Nursing Track (5, 10, or 20 minutes) – Research and Non-Research – These presentations should focus on the day-to-day administration and organization associated with managing a cleft and craniofacial team, as well as issues that team members face on a daily basis. Important problems that may be emphasized are team and parent communication, initial patient contact, clinical practice issues, feeding a baby with a cleft, and long-term management of the team patient. In this category, abstracts will be accepted for 5-minute show and tell presentations, 10-minute lecture presentations or 20-minute panels. Indicate track when submitting.
  • Short Talks (5 minutes) – Research and Non-Research – New research or clinical techniques that may be applied to research or to treatment.
  • Study Session AM (60 minutes) – Non-Research – Study Session at 7 am (formerly Eye Openers) offers in-depth instructional courses address various aspects of multidisciplinary team care.
  • Study Session PM (60 or 90 minutes) – Non-Research – Afternoon Study Session offers in-depth instructional courses address various aspects of multidisciplinary team care.

All submissions are due September 9, 2019 at 11:59 PM ET.
