ACPA is pleased to have awarded the Mary J. Hauk Scholarship for 8 consecutive years. Presented for the last time in 2018, this scholarship was established to help student professionals in the dentistry field attend ACPA’s Annual Meeting.
ACPA Member Dr. John Girotto and his team initiated this memorial scholarship fund in honor of Dr. Hauk, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 42. Mary was a founding member of the Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies Center at the Golisano Children’s Hospital, University of Rochester Medical Center. Her tireless dedication to the oral health treatment of children, her advancement of knowledge through publication, and her regular presentations at regional and national conferences represent the valuable contributions she made during her brief, yet remarkable career.
Dr. Mary Hauk dedicated her life’s work to children and families affected by craniofacial differences. She remained committed to the dental care of her patients for more than 15 years, often driving between Buffalo and Rochester as she purchased children’s supplies herself. Mary was dynamic, articulate and relentless in her advocacy and pursuit of comprehensive health care for all children in each of her clinical settings.
“A compassionate member of the Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies Center, an active researcher, a warm generous person, and a loving mother, Mary will be missed by all. Mary will be forever remembered by her family, colleagues, friends, and especially by the children of the Upstate NY for whom she cared so much,” Dr. Girotto said.
