Highlights from National Cleft & Craniofacial Awareness Month

Alyssa KirkmanACPA News

In July ACPA partnered with the Cleft Palate Foundation (CPF) for National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month. It was a great way to raise awareness about cleft lip & palate and to increase visibility about the work of ACPA members. Below are some highlights from the month:

  • A press release about the prevalence of cleft lip and palate was sent to national media outlets and picked up by 177. A copy of the press release can be read on ACPA’s website.
  • ACPA was featured at a Business After-Hours event hosted by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce. We had a great time and shared a glimpse of our incredible cleft-craniofacial community with local business leaders!
  • A 30-second PSA was recorded at WCHL, a local talk radio station, which was broadcasted for a week.
  • ACPA met with Chapel Hill Mayor Kleinschmidt, who officially proclaimed July as being cleft awareness month in Chapel Hill.
  • ACPA visited Charlotte Motor Speedway with U.S. Legend Cars International and INEX and Cameron Bolin Racing! Cameron is a 10-year old born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate who raises cleft awareness by featuring the CPF logo and website on his Bandolero racer.
  • ACPA was highlighted as a spotlight organization on CPF’s Facebook page for its impact on the cleft-craniofacial community.

We would love to hear stories about how our members spread cleft awareness during the month of July. Feel free to share by replying to our Facebook post.
