New ACPA Bears are Coming

ACPA is pleased to announce that the “Cleftline Bears” are getting an upgrade.

Since January 2001, over 15,000 custom-made GUND teddy bears have brought smiles to the faces of children as part of the Cleft Palate Foundation (CPF) Cleftline™ Bears project. Now that CPF has merged with ACPA, ACPA Family Services will be overseeing the new design.

The bear program aims to help children cope with the questions and anxiety they experience from having facial differences such as cleft lip and palate. Each bear is custom-made with stitches across its upper lip. Karen LeClair started the program in 1989 by collecting hand stitching over 300 bears. Karen’s positive project evaluations led to CPF’s interest in implementing the program on a much larger scale.  ACPA Family Services is excited to continue to provide this long standing program with a newly designed bear.

In addition to a new look, the bears will also be rebranded under ACPA and given a new name.  The new bears will be available Summer 2018.  Anyone interested in making a donation to support the new ACPA bear program should contact Chris Bouton.

Current bears are still available and can be ordered here.
